The climate office's description of this coast applies: storms reach the jutting shoreline, and the ocean moderates summer heat. Salt and wind-driven rain are the roof stresses at Shell Island on the north end and at the south end alike. This is true hurricane exposure. It is not the Piedmont hail pattern seen in Cary.
