Sunset Beach is the southern Brunswick County beach, near Calabash and the South Carolina line where the state climate office says this coastline begins. Tropical storms and nor'easters both reach it. The island takes salt and ocean wind. Sea Trail and the mainland villas take coastal-plain wind and rain with less spray. Hurricane exposure is real on the island. Piedmont hail is not the pattern.
