GAF is the largest roofing manufacturer in North America. When you install GAF products, the warranty you receive depends on your contractor's certification level:
Non-Certified Contractor
- Standard limited warranty on materials only

- If the contractor makes an installation error, GAF won't cover it

- System Plus warranty available

Silver Pledge Limited Warranty
The Silver Pledge Limited Warranty is available when any Timberline shingle plus at least 4 qualifying accessory products are installed by a GAF Certified Plus or Master Elite contractor.
What Silver Pledge Covers
- Lifetime shingle term on a single-family detached residence owned by individuals; 40 years for any other owner or building
- 50-year Smart Choice Protection Period. During Smart Choice, a manufacturing-defect claim includes the full reasonable cost of labor. After that, labor is not covered.
- Workmanship: 10 Years - Timberline® NS, Timberline HDZ® & Timberline HDZ® RS; 15 Years - Timberline® AS II & Timberline UHDZ®
- Tear-off and disposal: Covered (when necessary)
- Wind Limited Warranty Term: 15 Years. Maximum wind speed coverage is 130 mph with Special Installation on non-LayerLock shingles. LayerLock-labeled shingles: WindProven™ Limited Wind Warranty, no maximum wind speed limitation.
- Algae: 10 Years for StainGuard®-Labeled Shingles; 25 Years for StainGuard Plus™-Labeled Shingles and Ridge Cap Shingles; 30 Years for StainGuard Plus PRO™-Labeled Shingles
What "Backed by GAF" Means
This is the key distinction. When GAF backs the workmanship warranty, it means that if your contractor goes out of business during the warranty period, GAF still honors the claim. With a non-certified contractor, if they close up shop, your workmanship warranty disappears with them.

Silver Pledge workmanship is 10 years (Timberline® NS, Timberline HDZ®, and Timberline HDZ® RS) or 15 years (Timberline® AS II and Timberline UHDZ®).
- Algae: 25 Years for StainGuard Plus™-Labeled Shingles and Ridge Cap Shingles; 30 Years for StainGuard Plus PRO™-Labeled Shingles
- Wind: LayerLock-labeled shingles have the WindProven™ Limited Wind Warranty, with no maximum wind speed limitation. The wind limited warranty term is 15 years.
Lifetime Workmanship on a Single-Family Detached Residence, Non-Prorated 25 Years (Timberline HDZ®/HDZ® RS) or 30 Years (AS II/UHDZ®)
This is the headline benefit. Most roofing failures happen due to installation issues, not material defects. Common workmanship problems include:
- Improper nailing — nails placed too high, too low, or at wrong angles
- Missing or incorrectly installed flashing at walls, chimneys, and valleys
